NYC Venues

OK, so Gothamist wrote a piece about our squabble with the Annex following Friday’s cancellation without notice.

In the peice we got as good as we gave. And that is fine. We’re big boys, we can take it.

Just want to be clear about one thing: we don’t hate New York or New Yorkers. As a matter of fact, the reason I was even moved to raise a stink is because I am sort of tired of the number of bad stories I’ve heard from other bands about playing in NYC. I just wish that there were more clubs that would treat bands well.

Our last NYC gig was at Club Midway. They treated us well and we appreciated it. We used to play the Lit Lounge a lot, and they treated us well too. But anyone who has been in a band and toured around knows that there are a lot of places in NYC are just hustling and you have to keep your guard up. I have heard more stories about that going on in NYC than any other city.

Is it possible that there are more instances of shady clubs in New York simply because there is more of everything in New York. Yes, very possible. It just bums me out sometimes that the greatest city in the world is a few miles from our practice space and its reputation for rock venues is far from the greatest in the world.

So someone who writes for Gothamist doesn’t like our music or our photos (we don’t like a lot of our photos either for what it is worth). That’s cool. Taste is subjective. It makes the world go round.

I stand by the fact that lots of New York clubs don’t treat bands very well, and I think it is a shame because NYC is the best city in the world.
